Notes:

  • Auditionees may be asked to read singly or with others.

  • If necessary, auditionees may be asked to return for a call back.

  • We ask that you be respectful of the other auditionees and maintain a quiet attitude.

Maggie’s Little Theater generally rehearses on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7:30-10pm and on Sundays from 5-9pm. Due to the facility and holiday schedules, there are occasional Fridays or Mondays. Cast is required to keep the schedules clear for every night of production week, including the Saturday and Sunday before. Production week schedule TBD at a later date. Please bring your calendar to the audition in order to list your current conflicts. If cast in "Into the Woods" and subsequently auditioning for another production performing after "Into the Woods" is over, "Into the Woods" is your priority and these rehearsals are your conflicts for that production. Maggie’s Little Theater requires all cast members to perform volunteer activities outside of their role. Examples include hall setup, distributing flyers and posters, set strike, production tasks, or similar.

Characters:

The Baker - (Male, 35-45) Vocal range top: G4. Vocal range bottom: Ab2. A harried and insecure baker who is simple and loving, yet protective of his family. He wants his wife to be happy and is willing to do anything to ensure her happiness but refuses to let others fight his battles.

The Baker’s Wife - (Female, 25-45) Vocal range top: G5. Vocal range bottom: F3. Determined and bright woman who wishes to be a mother. She leads a simple yet satisfying life and is very low-maintenance yet proactive in her endeavors.

The Witch - (Female, 45-65) Vocal range top: G5. Vocal range bottom: F3. Sarcastic, ugly-then-gorgeous, obsessive protector of Rapunzel who is straightforward and aggressive.

Cinderella - (Female, 20-30) Vocal range top: G5. Vocal range bottom: G3. A young, earnest maiden who is constantly mistreated by her stepmother and stepsisters.

Jack - (Male, 20-30) Vocal range top: G4. Vocal range bottom: B2. The feckless giant killer who is ‘almost a man.’ He is adventurous, naive, energetic, and bright-eyed.

Little Red Riding Hood - (Female, 18-20) Vocal range top: F5. Vocal range bottom: Bb3. A spoiled young girl who is strong-willed, quick-witted, fearless, yet youthful and naive.

Narrator/Mysterious Man - (Male, 50+) Vocal range G2-G#4) Two very different but essential roles. The Narrator is an intellectual and pleasant storyteller, while the Mysterious Man is a nosy meddler who is protective and observant.

Jack’s Mother - (Female, 50-65) Vocal range top: Gb5. Vocal range bottom: Bb3. Browbeating and weary, Jack’s protective mother who is independent, bold, and strong-willed.

Cinderella’s Prince/Wolf - (Male, 30-35) Vocal range top: Gb4. Vocal range bottom: Bb2. Wolf: Hungry and insatiable hunter who takes advantage of the weak by misleading and captivating his prey. Prince: Vain and gorgeous, he is a disloyal lover who is currently searching for the next new, exciting thing.

Rapunzel’s Prince - (Male, 30-40) Vocal range top: E4. Vocal range bottom: C#3. Just as vain and gorgeous as his Prince brother, he is always chasing the newest, most exiting endeavor.

Rapunzel - (Female, 20-30) Vocal range top: A5. Vocal range bottom: B3. A loopy-but-lovely maiden who is sheltered by the Witch and terribly lonely. She yearns to experience the world.

Cinderella’s Stepmother - (Female, 40-50) Vocal range top: F#5. Vocal range bottom: A3. The mean-spirited, demanding stepmother of Cinderella.

Florinda & Lucinda - (Female, 25-35) Vocal range top: Ab5. Vocal range bottom: C4. Cinderella’s stepsisters who are black of heart. They follow in their mother’s footsteps of abusing Cinderella.

The Steward - (Male, 35-50) Vocal range: Ensemble singer. A man-servant who is used to doing whatever he has to solve a problem. His only care is to please his master or the strongest personality in the room. Conniving, callous and cowardly.

Cinderella’s Father - (Male, 50+) Vocal range: Ensemble singer. Out of touch with his family but harmless and well-meaning. No solo singing.

Cinderella’s Mother/Granny/Giant - (Female, 40-60) Vocal range: Ensemble singer.

Please be prepared to sing the vocal cuts below for characters that you are interested in playing. At auditions you will likely be asked to sing the vocal cut for the character you want the most, but please be aware that you may be called to sing for any character you indicate you are interested in on your audition sheet.
